Canonical is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our Server Certification team in Hyderabad. In this role, you will contribute to the development of Python-based testing tools essential for validating Ubuntu Server on the latest enterprise hardware. Your work will bridge the gap between hardware and software, ensuring a seamless and optimal Ubuntu experience for users. You'll collaborate closely with silicon companies, OEMs, ODMs, and internal Canonical teams to guarantee a secure, out-of-the-box Ubuntu experience on a growing range of devices.
This is an exceptional opportunity to significantly impact the adoption of Linux on enterprise server hardware across diverse industries. You will play a key role in troubleshooting hardware compatibility, functionality, and performance issues, and providing technical support to Canonical's hardware partners during their certification processes. Educating partners on Canonical's tools, processes, and product roadmaps will be a core responsibility, as will supporting internal teams with customer deployments of Datacenter and Cloud products.
This position offers a dynamic, fast-paced team environment with ample learning and development opportunities. While the team is primarily based in North and South American time zones, this role allows for remote work with global travel expected 2-4 times annually for events.
**What You'll Do:** * Contribute to Canonical's open-source testing tools like Checkbox and Testflinger. * Troubleshoot hardware compatibility, functionality, and performance issues. * Provide technical support to hardware partners for their certification efforts. * Educate partners on Canonical's tools, processes, and product roadmaps. * Support internal teams with customer deployments of Canonical's Datacenter and Cloud products utilizing partner hardware.
**Who You Are:** * Proficient in Python and shell scripting. * Familiar with server-class hardware. * Knowledgeable about Ubuntu, virtualization, and cloud computing concepts. * Comfortable in a customer-facing role.
**Desired Skills & Experience:** * Experience with test automation tools for hardware validation. * Understanding of CI/CD concepts. * Experience with virtualization or container technologies (e.g., QEMU, KVM, LXC/LXD, Docker).
